Inspired by the home of Carl and Karin Larsson in Dalarna

Inspired by the home of beloved artists Carl and Karin Larsson, Lilla Hyttnäs in Dalarna, Kid’s Concept has created a collection that seeks to embody this Swedish culturalheritage for future generations. Carl and Karin’s home welcomed everyone as a place to play, relaxand just be. This is a classic, timeless collection, comprising home furnishings and toys. The products boast natural materials, bold colours and carefully considered design touches.

Developed and designed by Lotta Hallenius at Kid’s Concept, the collection is inspired by the vivid colour combinations and simple, graphic style that Karin employed in the home’s furniture and textiles.

I wanted to create a home furnishings and toy collection that represented and honoured Carl and Karin Larsson’s home, while also remaining relevant for a modern Kid’s Concept room. Much of Karin Larsson’s philosophy lies at the root of all modern and Scandinavian interior design. I’ve taken the small details in the house and applied them to our products, like the simple knotted tail on the rocking horse. Using the same daring colour combinations as in their home also establishes a clear lineage,” says Lotta Hallenius, designer and product developer at Kid’s Concept.

Karin and Carl Larsson – the dynamic duo

Karin and Carl Larsson both trained at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts. Like so many other artists in the 19th century, they then headed to Paris and it was at the artists’ colony in Grez-sur-Loing that they met for the first time and fell in love. After a few years, they decided to move back home to Stockholm, but they both missed their life in Grez. The longing to be close to nature and live a more down-to-earth life resulted in a move to Lilla Hyttnäs in Sundborn, where they had a total of eight children.

Karin and Carl were both ambitious and talented artists. Karin applied her truly original style to thefurniture and textiles that she wove, embroidered, and designed for the home. Carl was very creative and painted their furniture and walls. Together, they established a beautiful home full of life, as wellas a unique interior style in bold and striking colours inspired by influences such as the Arts & Crafts movement, William Morris and Swedish folk art.

Kid’s Concept share the same dream that Karin Larsson had a century ago, to furnish our homes in a way that turns life into art that we’ve created personally over time.
